Sailing in the daylight
Socializing at night
21-23 August 2020
The 2020 Courses
Two Days of Adventurous Sailing
AUG 22 - 23
We're still finalizing the courses - but to give you the big picture here is what you are in for - a star . A start around 10AM rounding of more buoys outside of the harbour of Lyø before sprinting of to Fåborg west of Bjørnø before rounding a lateral buoy just outside of the harbour close enough for the spectators to follow from the shore. Leaving Fåborg with Bjørnø on starboard the sailors are drawn back to Lyø just like the sirens tried to draugh Odysseus to the shores. After a mark rounding outside of Lyø harbour the course is set south easterly course again Avernakø on port. Then a passage between Avernakø and Drejø, heading further east towards the rounding of Skarø passing with Tåsinge, and Hjortø on port and Drejø on starboard before heading home to a few mark roundings outside the port of Lyø before the finishing line can be crossed in due time for a 5 o'clock tea. The course will be finalized on the day - depending on the wind.
We want everybody back with plenty of time for a beer on the pier and in time to get organized and dressed up for the dinner at Anders place Lyø Kro.
About Lyø Escape
What is Lyø Escape?
Lyø Escape is adventure sail racing in it's most relaxed form - sailing in the daytime socializing at night. The 2020 edition is the first and hence we call it the "prototype". The 2020 edition will feature a star shaped course format on Saturday 22. and a more conventional format on Sunday 23. From 2021 the ambition is to include most kinds of water sports driven by sail or by human power for the event.
For those old enough to remember the original round Funen race Fyn Rundt starting from Korshavn - that's our ambition. We went to fill the lagoon outside Lyø with hundreds of boats. But unlike Fyn Rundt Lyø Escape is aimed at participants and boats in cruising mode. The competing will be laid back and there will be no sailing after 5 PM.
Let's syncronize our coordinates - and meet up!
The strong team is going to welcome you to Lyø AUG 21 -23
